If I Had My Way - IIHMW |
|
Date: Wednesday, February 23, 2011 Subject: IIHMW III - If Not Now, When?? Yesterday, the 22nd, Thomas L. Friedman posted a column with the title, "If Not Now, When?" What's unfolding in the Arab world today is the mother of all wake-up calls. And what the voice on the other end of the line is telling us is clear as a bell: Sorry, Tom, I have to disagree -- "move your house" means "things are going to be different" and it applies to the entire world. The people are saying that they want to participate (AKA: have something to say) in the process of government. And while it looks a bit different in America, the people are essentially saying the same thing. We, the residents of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota are watching our PBS station slide down the tubes for lack of support. We are being "told" to call our representatives in Washington regarding our opinion about Federal financing in addition to the necessity to "do our part" in financially supporting their activity. I have sent some emails to Jim Pagliarini with no response -- so I will be sending him a copy of this post as well as my last email, via snail mail. It is one thing for the government to help support some out-of-work individuals -- it is another for the government to support a dead business model. And, Tom Friedman is an excellent example of the problem in the U.S., as is many of his kind -- they don't publish email addresses -- and when they do, they do not respond. What's the difference between a non-responsive journalist and a non-responsive dictator?? (Besides the potential use of force, that is) To be continued (I hope) BTW, in hopes of exciting some discussion I am
posting this page on the following web sites. Thanks for your time, Doug Skoglund - skoglund@pdmsb.com
